Our WHY...

WheelHouse Yoga was born on a screen porch in Historic Clifton while two friends endured the chaos of a playdate amongst the 6 children between them collectively. Alyson was obsessed with yoga for her personal practice, while personal training and teaching special needs children at the local elementary school. Kelly was equally obsessed with yoga and had grown a community of faithful students teaching Pilates in the community center and in her basement. So when Kelly asked one simple question, "Would you ever consider opening a yoga and fitness studio in the town of Clifton with me?" The answer was YES and the wheels started turning.

So why WheelHouse? In our small business planning stages we would frequently use the word wheelhouse to articulate each of our strengths and what sort of offerings we wanted to bring to the community - with that the name was born. It is bolstered by the relevance of the wheelhouse of a boat being where you steer the ship - relating to taking the reins in your life. Pitching in a batters wheelhouse almost guarantees a stellar hit - keep with your yoga practice and access that sweet spot in your mind and body. And finally, the Dharma wheel of the spiritual practice solidifying our foundation.

We cut the ribbon to our first location on October 2, 2015. Since that day we have kept the wheels turning because of our WHY - provide a refuge in the community where people can come together and experience the benefits of yoga for their body and mind. Growing this community has meant traveling the world on yoga retreats, giving more opportunities by certifying teachers in our Fluid Yoga Teacher Training, immersing in Dharma discussions, and cultivating spiritual growth, all in a place where compassion is the answer to everything.
